Relationship Between Vitamin A, Vitamin D, And Fasting Blood Glucose In Diabetic Obese Individuals In Warri Metropolis, Delta State, Nigeria

Adejumo B.I.G., Ebhohimhen B.B.O, and Erhunmwunse R.U.

It has been well documented that diabetes and obesity are the two chronic disorders on the increase globally (Abdullah et al., 2014). Insulin resistance and diabetes has a strong connection with body mass index. The amount of nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA), glycerol, hormones, cytokines, pro-inflam-matory elements, and other elements that are involved in the development of insulin resistance increase in fold in an obese individual (Abdullah et al., 2014).

The Role Of Antioxidants In Haloperidol-Inducted Testicular Alterations In A Rat Model Of N- Methyl-D-Aspartate Receptor Hypofunction

Afolayan O.O, Fagbongbe T, Afolayan G.O., Faniyan O.

N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors (NMDARs) are subtypes of glutamate receptors that play important roles in excitatory neurotransmission, synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory (Paoletti et al., 2013). NMDAR subtypes have been found to be widely distributed in other non-neuronal cells and tissues such as glial cells, Schwan cells, heart, kidney and the testes.

Knowledge And Perceptions Of Organophosphate Pesticide-Use And Route Of Body Contact Among Nigerian Farm Workers

Yaqub S.A. and Arinola O.G.

Agriculture is a basic source of income and subsistence among many Nigerians. Despite the rise in industrialization, agriculture remains a highly significant contributor to the Nigeria's Gross Domestic Product (Emeka, 2007; Olajide et al., 2012). Due to the steep competition and large demand to feed the teeming population, many farmers resort to the extensive use of pesticides to increase yield (Zyoud et al., 2010).

High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein And Some Liver Enzymes As Potential Diagnostic Markers For Assessing Malaria

Hauwa B., Salisu B.M., Mohammad B.A., Yalwa M.G., Alkali M.

Malaria is a leading public health burden among all infectious diseases and constitutes a major health challenge (Park, 2013). It accounted for an estimated 435,000 and 405,000 deaths globally in 2017; accounting for 93% and 94% occurring in the WHO African region (WHO, 2018; WHO,2019).

Comparison Of Body Burden Of Cadmium, Arsenic And Lead In Patients With Type II Diabetes Mellitus And Non-Diabetic Cohorts In Benin City, Nigeria

Igharo O.G.1, Osunbor O.J.1, Johnson O.B.1, Orhionkpamwan O.S.1, Idomeh A.F.1,2 and Nwobi, N.L.3

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by a chronic hyperglycemic condition resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action or both, Njolstad et al. (2003). DM consists of three major types: Type I DM (previously known as juvenile onset), Type II DM (previously known as maturity onset) and Gestational DM which occurs in some pregnant women, Ozougwu et al., (2013).

Decreased Inorganic Micronutrient Levels In Patients With Type II Diabetes Mellitus In Benin City, South-South Nigeria

Igharo O.G1, Osunbor O.J1, Orhionkpamwan O.S1, Idomeh A.F1,2 and Omusi, P.I.1

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by increased blood glucose levels resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both, ADA (2005). Type II or noninsulin-dependent DM or maturity-onset is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia associated with both tissue insulin resistance and defective insulin secretion.

Comparative Study Of Some Heat-Mediated Antigen Retrieval Techniques Of Hormonal Protein Expressions In Breast Cancer Among Women

Akinbo F.O.1, Odega K. 1, 2 , Obaseki D.E.2

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women resulting into many deaths globally (Ferlay et al., 2008).The incidence of breast cancer is reported to be lower in subSaharan Africa than in developed countries however, African women are likely to be diagnosed more at later stages of the disease than women in the developed countries due to a lack of proper enlightenment, early detection and poor management (Elgaili and Uylings, 2010).

Building Capacity For Genomics Research And Molecular Diagnosis In Developing Countries: Lesson Learnt From Dry-Lab And Wet-Lab Summer School Intervention In Nigeria

Samuel TA., Popoola OP., Iwalokun BA, Taiwo IA and Akinloye O.

The new science of genomics endeavors to chart the genomes of individuals around the world, with the dual goal of understanding the role genetic factors play in human health (1). Thus, Genomic Medicine has experienced astronomical growth in recent years (2, 3). Genomics is particularly attractive for Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries where new technologies and products from genomics research can help mitigate the heavy burden of infectious and chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) (4).
